Doja Cat - Hot Pink
Doja Cat’s sophomore album Hot Pink is finally here, and it doesn’t disappoint as it continues Doja Cat’s evolution as a multi-faceted songwriter. Once again, Doja comes through with consistently sticky hooks, uppity flows, and intensely horny lyrics. In an interview with Exclaim, she said "I named the album 'Hot Pink' because I wanted people to feel that before they got into the music that it felt passionate, warm and welcoming," which keeps true when it comes to the hugging instrumentals off this album.
Hot Pink features Smino, Tyga, and Gucci Mane in perfectly placed pockets for their respective styles allowing Doja to shine and take the front seat singing hooks and rapping on almost every song. ‘Won’t Bite’ with Smino has the perfectly matched duo blending together seamlessly with sweet melodies and beautiful yodeling throughout. ‘Say So’ is another timeless classic drenched in Doja’s signature writing making for a warm experience that feels like being under a hundred blankets.
Doja continues to defy genre and be unapologetically herself, and Hot Pink is the definitely best installment in Doja’s discography hinting at even better music to come. Make sure to watch Doja’s Instagram live for the process behind her interesting song creation process; it was on there that I saw her make the demos for some of the songs on Hot Pink which was very captivating to see.
