Lunchbox- A Dark Night in Gotham
The Harlem residing artist, Lunchbox, dropped the twelve track project that is A Dark Night in Gotham. This project embodies the structure and sound of modern hip-hop done right. While many use the current medium of hip-hop to pass up half-hearted mumble lyricism over 808’s as art, Lunchbox puts the modern structure for hip-hop to work in all the correct ways.
He maintains a low-tone to his vocals consistently throughout this project which plays to his advantage in triggering low-down, night time vibes for his listener’s minds. The production- courtesy of Lunchbox, himself, AR, Baldy, 16yrold and more- is highlighted by synths, enhanced drum kicks, and most importantly, autotune perfected background vocals. It’s these vocals, a relatively easy to overlook aspect to the sound, that invokes the brooding and wonderfully dark nature of this project alongside Lunchboxes’ well-composed rhyme structure.
This masterful take on music brought to life by Lunchbox and Co. highlights that the modern take on hip-hop has a well-deserved place alongside the previous sounds and takes on the genre. If Lunchbox continues this level of quality in his work, it can be easily predicted that he will, in no time, make it to the top of the music industry. High praise it might seem like, but if you take a listen to A Dark Night in Gotham down below, its a conclusion you will more than likely come to aswell.
