The Teen Icon aka BBY KODIE aka Kodie Kardashian ascends to the next level on his new album ‘Vogue’ leaving his consistently minimalistic lo-fi sound at the door in favor of a more rich-sounding and extravagant set of beats. At only nineteen, he represents a prominent figure with a bright future within Houston’s underground and has already carved out a cult following in the city with his landmark albums ‘Kodie Kardashian’ and ‘9/23/19’ both of which were released earlier this year. Kodie’s work ethic is not only impressive but is showing to reap huge benefits as ‘Vogue’ is his largest release yet and includes shining features from Lil Yachty, BYOU, and Lil B.

This roughly thirty-five-minute album shows off the best of BBY KODIE’s whimsical flows paired with the smooth bravado lyrics that his fans love him for all within a more polished sound environment that ever before. The opening song ‘Start 2 Finish’ is a two-part cinematic blast into the album with a brass section announcing BBY KODIE’s arrival into your ears, and it includes what could be the thesis of the whole project “Who else you know start a riot then start moonwalkin’ in the pit, I knew from the start I was it.” BBY KODIE’s infectious youth and confidence ooze out of every bar and exemplify someone that has complete faith in the path they’re taking despite not being all the way at their destination yet. ‘It’s Only Wright’ is barely over one-minute long yet has one of the most contagious beats on the whole project sounding like a bouncy Sonic the Hedgehog level soundtrack which breaks down in the most incredible last twenty seconds before dipping out abruptly. The production on ‘(465)-599-6753’ flips the same main melody twice; in the first half, the beat is energetic and bright before slowing down the quickly moving melody into a creeping version of itself with new drums allowing BBY KODIE to croon about fucking colorful “Murakami Bitches,” with a completely fresh inflection.

“God finna sign his newest artist!” BBY KODIE declares on the album standout ‘Gotham’ which features some rare yet soulful singing by BBY KODIE in between two of his hardest verses on the entire project. An under-the-weather Lil Yachty appears on the next track ‘Red’ which has BBY KODIE riffing bars off of Lil Yachty’s most distinctive feature: his red hair. Yachty’s verse smoothly matched BBY KODIE’s flexing energy on the track and was reminiscent of his latest performances on ‘Nuthin’ to Prove.’ My favorite BBY KODIE single ‘Milkshake’ made it on to the album which is a damn bop chopping and screwing The Neptunes’ classic Kelis ‘Milkshake’ beat. It’s worth listening to on a daily basis. Overall, an impressive effort from BBY KODIE showcasing his potential for breaking through, and only time will tell if BBY KODIE’s prophecies on ‘Vogue’ will come true.
