Mane- Road Head

Mane- Road Head

Every now and then I find a pearl in an ocean full of waves. That pearl is Nathan Chase, who produces under the moniker, “Mane”. His production is aimed towards sampling using a Roland SP-404 and FL Studio, which is a workstation to make beats. He uses other artist’s acapella vocals and meshes them with his tracks to give it a new sound. It reminds me very much of what producer Knxwledge does on his projects. Mane’s most recent cut, “Road Head,” is what has me convinced of his sheer talent.

Drum roooooll please! The song introduces some heavenly strings that make you feel like you’re cruising through the clouds wearing black shades, a robe, and house shoes. Tucked underneath the blanket of strings are some uplifting horns and a bass line that sounds like something akin to Thundercat’s work. “But what about the drums Ritchie?”, you have some nice subtle drums that aren’t in your face to compliment the rest of the production.

I mentioned that Mane likes to mesh artist’s acapella with his production and for this track he chose Tyler, the Creator’s “Smuckers.” He picked Tyler’s and Wayne’s mid verse to tie into his instrumentation and boy does it give it a different vibe. I asked Mane, “What can you tell me about Road Head?” he responded with, “So I was just fucking around with that sample. (Billy Jones - Win Your Love)... I found the “Smuckers” acapella and put it in. I liked how it sounded over the beat. I like the message of it lol, very arrogant yet coordinated. And the cover of the track is just some anime shit. I been watching more anime lately lmao.”
