Jessie Reyez - CRAZY
Latina singer Jessie Reyez’ latest single comes in the form of a cover of the 1962 traditional pop hit Crazy originally performed by Patsy Cline and written by Willie Nelson. Jessie adapts the very smooth sounding songwriting with her dynamic tone and raspy undertones giving off an impassioned performance that feels more authentic than the original. The track ends with an uncompromising spoken word at the end on the difference between her and everyone that her past lovers may have brushed with, and it gives the track that period on the end that molds the meaning of a song written fifty years ago to a more modern context. She ends the song saying “I swear to God, on your deathbed, you'll think of me. Whether I'm there or not.”
Jessie’s debut album is slated to release next year, and it is unclear as to whether or not this single will appear on it as it is the third song she has released this year. Jessie’s ability to give her own spin and insert her voice into different styles and emotions are something to watch out for in the future as we wait patiently for the album.
